1. Aim for an hour a day of exercise and never miss 2 days in a row.
Commit to never letting more then 2 days pass without exercise. Something may come up where you can’t fit it in…just don’t let it happen more then 2 days in a row! This is an excellent way to hold yourself accountable.
2. Live by the 80/20 rule.
Only allow indulgences 20% of the time. 80% of the time focus on maintaining healthy eating habits. It’s what you do most often that counts…not what you do once in a while.
3. Cross train.
Unless you are training for an upcoming competition or race, the best thing you can do is train for overall health. Include cardio, strength and flexibility into your routine. At Pro-Fitness we will help you avoid getting stuck in a rut and constantly change your routine. Avoid steady state cardio. Add hills, intervals and speed work to challenge your cardio. Incorporate functional training into your routines often
4. Use monitoring tools.
There are many high tech tools in the market today to track just about anything you want. We believe the best tool out there is the MYZONE activity monitor available only at Pro-Fitness. It is the best all around heart rate monitor and activity tracker that is 99.4% accurate to an EKG. MYZONE is an excellent tool for making sure you are working out effectively and getting the most out of your training sessions. It has never been easier to keep track, pin point your strengths and weaknesses and monitor your progress.
5. Be prepared.
It takes planning to succeed. Travel with healthy snacks and always have water on hand. Set up the fridge with healthy portable snacks a few days at a time and you will always have healthy snacks on hand. Extreme hunger and fatigue is the enemy of making bad choices and overeating. If you have healthy snacks such as almonds, apples, carrots, broccoli, low fat greek yogurt and hummus you will be ready when hunger strikes.
6. Find a substitute for weaknesses.
Finding a healthier version for your most tempting treat is super simple with an easy Google search. If you love salty snacks such as chips, try switching it out for homemade popcorn. If you have a sweet tooth and enjoy ice cream, trying substituting low fat greek yogurt with some fresh blueberries. It’s ok to enjoy your favorite temptations once in awhile, just not everyday and remember to stick to the 80/20 rule.
7. Check your attitude.
Your actions are more likely to be positive if your attitude is as well. Focus on small wins and progress and STOP THOSE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS!
