MEET THE TEAM BRIAN HEROSIAN
One of the greatest athletes in University of Connecticut history. Brian Herosian has always been a success story exuding the attributes of character, leadership, athletic ability, and achievement in his career of choice. A product of Auburn, Massachusetts, Brian went to UConn in 1969 after an outstanding scholastic career at Worcester Academy. He quickly became a rare two-sport star at Connecticut, earning regional and national level individual honors in both football and baseball while serving as captain of each squad. As a two way standout at Connecticut, he was a three time All-Yankee Conference pick (1970-72), as a wide receiver in his sophomore year (1970) and as a defensive back the following two seasons (1971,1972). He was also tabbed as an All-New England and All-East selection. Following his senior season, he was selected to play in the prestigious North-South All-star game at the Orange Bowl and had an interception late in the game which preserved a 17-10 victory for his North squad. In October of 1998, Brian was named to UConn’s 100th Anniversary all-time Football Team. Brian’s college career also saw him excel on the Baseball diamond. In his three varsity seasons at UConn, Herosian would help lead the Huskies to an over-all record of 50-19-1, earning All-Yankee Conference, All-New England, and All-Eat honors in the process. As a sophomore in 1971, he led the entire nation (NCAA Division 1) in earned run average (0.63) while compiling a 6-1 record and hitting .329. In his junior year, Brian continued to star as a pitcher-first baseman-outfielder And UConn earned a berth in the 1972 College Baseball World Series, finishing the year 20-7 and fifth in the World series in Omaha, Nebraska. Between his Junior and senior baseball seasons, Herosian was selected by both the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees in the Pro baseball drafts, but he elected to complete his college eligibility. He finished his three-year varsity baseball career with a 14-5 pitching record. Brian still ranks No.1 on Connecticut’s all-time pitching shutout list with seven; he is No.2 in career strikeouts with 214, and stands No.8 on the career earned run average list (1.57). In the spring of 1973, Brian was honored by the UConn Club with its Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. In June of 1973, Brian chose to continue his athletic career in the professional ranks. He signed a National football League contract with the Baltimore Colts. After two seasons with the Colts, Brian signed a professional contract with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League and starred in the CFL for five seasons. He was honored as MVP of the Blue Bombers in both 1975 and 1976. He was a four-time Western conference all-star and was named to the CFL All-Pro Team four times. Brian was a Schenely nominee for top defensive player. In addition, the multi-skilled athlete won the Canadian Superstars competition in both 1977 and 1978. In 1999, Brian received a pair of special honors. He was voted the No.3 athlete of the century in Central Massachusetts by the Worcester Telegram and Gazette in its top 50 athletes of the century balloting. The Winnipeg Free Press also picked Brian as the best safety in Blue Bomber history. A Business Administration major while at UConn, Brian started his career in private business in 1979 and Herosian Enterprises Ltd. quickly grew into a multi-million dollar corporation which today ranks among the top of its kind in Canada. Brian is also listed as an Honored Professional in the National Register’s Who’s Who in executives and professionals 2001-2002 edition. During his professional football career, Brian served as a Personal Trainer for many training facilities in Winnipeg. Today Brian owns one of the fastest growing private training facilities in Western Canada (Pro-Fitness Training) training over 400 personal training sessions per week. Brian is also the Fitness Consultant for the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and Pro-Fitness Training is the main training facility for the entire AAA hockey league in Winnipeg. During his playing years, Brian had his own call in Radio Show with Bob Washington on CKRC and was later named the sports director for that station and had his sports news shows at 6a.m. Brian is also a professional motivational public speaker who does 10-12 engagements per year and is currently mentoring, motivating and certifying trainers on behave of CPTN out of Toronto. Brian is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with CPTN.
