At Pro-Fitness, we get results. Generally people find us through word-of-mouth – in fact, if you are on this site considering us, you probably heard of us from a friend or family member. We’re one of the most successful gyms of our type in Western Canada, and we’ve never really advertised. Our entire marketing plan is based on hard work and happy clients – happy, healthy and fit clients. Working out is hard but it’s rewarding. It’s also fun – at least it can be. At Pro-Fitness, we have fun. We provide guidance, we give you support, and we help keep you motivated but most of all we help you enjoy it. We can help you achieve your goals, whatever they may be – and we have the proven track record of results to back us up.

“Much like Oprah professing her many “Ah-Hah” moments, I have what I affectionately refer to as   “My Tire Flipping Moment”. 

It was the last day of an annual shopping trip to Albertville in 2013. I was beyond exhausted. My whole body hurt for many reasons: sitting on the bus, over indulging  with food & alcohol the whole weekend, and walking more than I likely had in a very long time. It also did not help I was at my heaviest weight of 293 pounds. I was physically and mentally done. I saw a friend sitting on a bench and sat down next her. I can only imagine how I looked. Here was this; little, friendly,  outgoing, petite, person who I knew only casually. I am not really sure if I actually sat down on the bench, flopped down, or just threw myself at it and her.

She looked at me and excitedly proclaimed “You know Kirsten, I can flip a 250 pound tire at my gym, so if you’re tired I could carry you out of here”.I was polite and sincere  in my response of “wow good for you”, but, in the back of my mind I was thinking: “I weigh 43 pounds more than the tire”.

Growing up I was involved in every school sport offered, I spent more time in the gym than anywhere else. Physical activity had been absent from my life for over 20 years. I had tried different ways of exercising: aerobics, nightly walks, aquacise, yoga, home workouts, the list goes on and on. I always managed to find an excuse or reason to quit on myself.

Walking through the door at Pro-Fitness was one of mind over matter. I decided I needed to get off the hamster wheel of inactivity and make some serious life changes. I decided I wanted to be able to flip the tire!

In the beginning the work-outs were tailored to what I could do, which was more than I believed I could when I walked in the door. All of the trainers believed in me and my abilities, and soon I began to believe in myself. Before I knew what was happening my body was changing, I was gaining muscle, losing weight, getting stronger (and more than just physically). As my physical abilities changed so did my work-outs. I am challenged with every workout. There is always something new to try, or goal to reach. 2 1/2 years ago I told  Amy “I hate running so I’ll just go on an Arc”. Amy wouldn’t hear of it and gently pushed me to a treadmill. Today the majority of my warm-ups begin on a treadmill running, and I can’t imagine doing it any different.

At Pro-Fitness I have learned there is more to getting healthy than being physically active and working out. The saying:  “Abs are built in the kitchen” is  true. Previously my eating habits had been less than stellar. With 2 sons involved in every possible activity, school, working, and just generally trying to survive the battles of daily life, I grabbed whatever I could from wherever I was. There was  little consideration for what I was putting in my body and its effects. 

Thankfully Amy is there for everyone at Pro-Fitness.  Amy creates these incredible programs and challenges, which not only include the work-outs but, the meal plans too. If anyone has a question about food, and what they are about to eat, Amy is there to provide an alternative or gently guide them away from what could turn into a “food-fession”. Changing my eating habits has not been easy. At 46 years old I am still learning to eat properly and how to fuel my body. However I struggle less today than I did when I walked through the door over 5 years ago. Amy provides the tools and advice. How you want to implement it in your life is your decision, but she has always been there to support and guide me. 

As an overweight person, one of the hardest things about starting physical activity, can be walking through the doors of any gym facility.  You worry about feeling judged, ridiculed, and on display while you make your way through whatever workout is planned. The group of people I work-out with are like my second family; we share in successes, encourage, celebrate accomplishment and support one another when struggling. When I started they truly cared that I showed up and tried. You will not meet a more positive group who want to see people succeed than those at Pro-Fitness. 

My little tire flipping friend from shopping? She has now become my gym wife and flips the tires with me!”


“I spent most of my life very overweight, unhealthy and unhappy. In January 2013, while planning a family vacation, I realized that my very first airplane ride would be near impossible at my current weight of over 400 pounds. Thinking about how embarrassed I would be if I couldn’t physically fit in my plane seat; I knew I had to change. 

I started tracking my calories with the MyFitnessPal app. We bought a treadmill that I faithfully used every day; in the beginning I could only walk 5 minutes at a time because I was that unhealthy. 

By September I lost 60 pounds on my own and very happily fit in my airplane seat. Then I hit the dreaded plateau – I was stuck for 8 months! Frustrated with no progress, I knew it was time for outside help. On a referral I nervously went to a consultation with Amy at Pro-Fitness Training. It was the best decision I ever made. Starting outslow, going just twice a week, the scale started slowly moving again! 

About a year and a half after joining the Pro-Fitness family, and having had my weight loss stall again for a few months, I was excited to hear that they were introducing MyZone heart rate monitors this summer. I started wearing the monitor, tweaked my eating habits, and after only 3 weeks I am down 12 pounds and 13.5 inches! 

The MyZone changes the way I work out because of the motivation it inspires: I can look up at the screen at any time and see the level of effort I’m putting in at that exact moment. Then depending on what level I’m working at, I can either tell myself to pick up the pace, or pat myself on the back for working hard! 

It’s hard to believe how far I’ve come after just a year and a half since my first session with Amy. I’ve lost a total of 122 pounds, and gained confidence that I used to only dream of having. I’m able to do things I’ve never been able to do before: run and play with my boys, mow the lawn for my husband, and be able to look in the mirror and like what I see. 

I now spend 6 days a week with my Pro-Fitness family and feel very blessed to discover such a positive, fantastic group of people. My success is directly related to the unending support I receive from all the staff and clients there. I give them silent thanks every day for helping me change my life, and I look forward to all the goals they can help me reach in the future.”

“Growing up, I never considered myself fat or overweight, or unhealthy. I played sports in high school and was tall enough that my weight distributed evenly enough on my body that you couldn’t tell how overweight I actually was. Or maybe at least, I couldn’t tell how overweight I actually was.

At my heaviest, I weighed 217 lbs. Through various diets, gym memberships and new years resolutions here and there, I was able to get down to around the 180lb mark. But along with a lot of people out there, I would get complacent and would stop going to the gym and start eating junk food, using the all too familiar excuse that I was just too busy to exercise.

This year, I got to the point where I every time I looked in the mirror, I saw that I needed to lose weight but still struggled to find motivation. I would constantly buy clothes that I knew were too small with the hope that one day, I actually would get my act together and fit into these clothes. But to quote Ned Flanders’ parents from The Simpsons, “I’ve tried nothing, and I’m all out of ideas.”

In May of this year, after talking to a family member who had trained at Pro-Fitness over 10 years ago, I had emailed Amy about signing up my athlete brother for summer training. During our back and forth correspondence, I had a gut feeling about Amy and the team at Pro-Fitness and decided that this was it. I was going to sign myself up too and finally do this, come hell or high water.

It was after May long weekend that I had my first session with Brian. I was terrified, excited and nervous. I made it through that first day and was so determined that I came back the next day, sore muscles and all.

It’s been four months since my first day Pro-Fitness, four months of sticking to the meal plan they provided me with and working out 3 times a week. I now go 5 days a week and am down almost 20lbs since my first weigh-in, and have gone from a 30-31-pant size to a 24-25. I broke down into happy tears the night I tried on that too-small dress that had been hanging in my closet for the longest time to find that it was now TOO BIG!

I am stronger and healthier than I’ve ever been in my life and I owe it all to the trainers at Pro-Fitness. They’ve kept me accountable and on track and have been my constant motivators and cheerleaders throughout this journey. There aren’t enough good things that I could say about my Pro-Fitness family to adequately express my gratitude for what they have helped me achieve in such a short time.

Pro-Fitness has got me for life now. And if you can commit to putting in the effort, Pro-Fitness will help get you to where you want to be. The first step is getting up an actually doing it. I did it, and I’ve never looked back since.”
